Since a couple of month back Johanna Larsson is Swedens best ranked female tennis player. This summer she will make her third start in the WTA Event, Collector Swedish Open, on home soil. She will approach it with a fresh attitude.
She lost in the first round in Båstad both in 2009 and 2010.
“The first year I was pretty new in the game. And last year I maybe feel a little bit of pressure. Now I have experienced two home tournaments so I am looking forward to this year’s event very much. I really hope I can enjoy the atmosphere and take advantage of playing in front of the Swedish public and use everything that comes with playing in your home country, says Johanna Larsson.
2010 was the first year in her career that she finished inside top 100 in the world ranking. That means this is the first year she has been able to schedule a full year with WTA-tournaments.
“It means a lot with more experience from these kind of events. But you have to remember that the competition is hard. There is nothing like a easy draw, she explains.
Just a few weeks after Collector Swedish Open in Båstad last year she advanced to her first ever WTA-final (in Portoroz). Later in the season the first title came in Quebeck when she won the doubles title together with Fed Cup teammate Sofia Arvidsson. This Year Johanna Larsson began her claycourt season early in Acapulco – reaching the semis. Later in the spring she passed Sofia Arvidsson and became Swedens number one. From 2011 the Swedish Olympic committee also supports Johanna Larsson who is currently ranked as number 78 in the world.
