Robredo and Monaco through to the semi's

At Catella Swedish Open on Friday Tommy Robredo is set for his fourth ATP World Tour semifinal after having defeated the Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. The Spaniard has had an impressive year so far with two titles and one Grand Slam quarterfinal at Roland Garros as his most outstanding results. In the next round he will face Juan Monaco who won his quarterfinal after Fernando Verdasco had to retire due to a right calf injury.

The 27-year-old Spaniard started the match in full speed and won the first three games before his opponent set his mark in the match. But the Russian was not able to stop the defending champion Robredo won the first set 6-4. In the second Gabashvili lost his energy and the Spaniard showed no mercy taking six games in a row to settle the deal.

In the next round the world no. 16 will face the Argentine Juan Monaco who played very well during his quarterfinal before his opponent, Fernando Verdasco had to retire. Monaco was leading 6-1, 3-1 when the Spaniard had to give up.

"In the first game of the match I pulled a muscle in my calf. It was really hard to play after that. I had real pain when serving, especially since the injury is in my my right leg,"said Verdasco after the game.

Monaco is through for his second semifinal this year and might be on his way back to the supreme shape he was in last year. He reached a career-high No. 14 in the ATP World Tour rankings in February 2008 and is currently ranked as No. 61.
